BOCA RATON — The Boca Raton Police Department has identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting at Second Avenue and Second Street downtown on Wednesday morning.
Police identified the man as Morey Clemmons. He was 39.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Boca Raton police officer “encountered” Clemmons between Northwest Second Street and Palmetto Park Road, police spokesperson Jessica Desir told reporters at the scene.
At some point during that encounter, Desir said, the officer fired his weapon.
“We can confirm that one male is deceased,,” Desir said to reporters Wednesday.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation, which Desir told reporters was “standard protocol” in officer-involved shootings.
Police have not said why the officer fired a weapon.
The officer, who has not been identified, was not injured, Desir said Wednesday.
