Dec. 11—A Manchester woman was arrested for allegedly shooting her boyfriend in the head at a residence on Silver Street Tuesday night, according to a criminal complaint.
Alicia Castagnino, 24, was charged with two alternate counts of second-degree murder, according to the Attorney General’s Office (AG).
An autopsy Wednesday concluded a single gunshot wound to the head caused the death of Brennan Pelio, 27, of Manchester, according to the AG.
Castagnino lives in the building where the shooting occurred — Twin Towers Condominiums at 470 Silver St. — and is accused of shooting her boyfriend, according to the complaint.
Pelio owned the same condo unit that Castagnino gave as her address, according to city property records.
The city’s “gotten real unsafe,” said building resident Sue Scotti, who grew up in Manchester and returned recently after living 15 years in Florida.
“I didn’t even hear the cops” Tuesday night responding to the murder, Scotti said.
Around 10 p.m., Manchester Police responded to a suspicious death call and found Pelio dead from an apparent gunshot wound, prosecutors said.
Castagnino, who was arrested Wednesday morning, will be arraigned at 10 a.m. Friday at the 9th Circuit — District Division — Manchester.
She was charged with one count of second-degree murder for knowingly causing the death of Pelio by shooting him in the head with a firearm, and alternatively, on one count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing the death of Pelio under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life by shooting him in the head with a firearm, according to the AG.
The arrest warrant affidavit was sealed by the court.
Another resident said she couldn’t believe a murder happened in her building.
“It’s crazy,” said the woman, who didn’t want to be named.
