Police have laid a negligent manslaughter charge against a man accused of assault in relation to the death of Victorian woman Emma Bates.
Ms Bates, 49, was found dead inside a property on Campbell Rd, Cobram, in the state’s north, on April 23 this year.

Discovered with significant damage to the upper portion of her body and head, Ms Bates’s injuries were indicative of assault, forensic analysed revealed.
John Torney, 40, Ms Bates’s next-door neighbour, will appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on December 17.

He is already facing charges of intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, common law assault, aggravated assault of a female and unlawful assault in relation to the incident.
Ms Bates had suffered with type 1 diabetes for years and used a mobility scooter to travel around.
