The man arrested in connection to the murder of a health insurance executive is related to Republican Maryland House of Delegates member Nino Mangione.
NBC and Fox News have confirmed that Luigi Nicholas Mangione, the 26-year-old arrested in connection to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, and Delegate Nino Mangione are cousins. The Baltimore Sun was able to confirm that they are Facebook friends and follow each other on Instagram.
Police arrested Luigi Mangione in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days after Thompson was gunned down in New York City. Mangione is from Towson and graduated from the Gilman School in Baltimore. He was the class valedictorian in 2016.
Delegate Mangione, who is in his second term in the House of Delegates, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
