CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — Midwest Energy and Communications (MEC) is offering four $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors toward their trade school or college education.
Additionally, according to a news release, up to two winners will be able to apply for a second scholarship after completing their first year of trade school or college.
To apply, students must complete a brief video challenge.
MEC provides three main services: electric, propane and fiber internet. “Pick one and create a commercial to promote it,” the release stated.
Students are encouraged to think creatively, imagining they are making a commercial for TV.
They can use various forms of artwork, storytelling and other creative elements to advertise their chosen service in an unforgettable way.
Eligibility requirements include receiving monthly service from MEC at their family’s primary residence, submitting an official transcript and maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale.
Children of MEC employees and board members are not eligible to apply.
The deadline to apply is Monday, March 17.
Winners will be announced in the spring.
