Meeting to identify city-owned properties for revitalization postponed indefinitely

The community inventory session scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9 has been postponed indefinitely by the city.

The City of Petersburg is working with West Virginia University (WVU) and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to tackle blight in Petersburg by identifying city-owned properties that could be considered brownfields and/or abandoned and dilapidated structures to prioritize for revitalization.

The city had originally scheduled a community inventory session at the Petersburg Public Library for Thursday, Jan. 9 to discuss these properties with local residents and then go out into the field to survey them. But on Monday afternoon, the city sent out an email saying the meeting has been postponed. There was no information included on when or if another meeting will be scheduled.
