Metro Detroit holiday trail operators seek alleged thieves, vandals

Commerce Township winter wonderland Glenlore Trails is on the hunt for a gang of holiday Grinches who allegedly stole from and vandalized the forest property.

Christmas colored lights on trees and lit up inflatable igloos are just some of the many scenes at Glenlore Trails on Newton Road in Commerce Township on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2024. The Christmas themed forest that opened up in 2020 sees up to 100,000 people walk through the interactive exhibit and displays along the forest path.

“Does anyone happen to recognize this face?” a Tuesday Facebook post from the Glenlore Trails account said of a black and white surveillance image. “He and his friends decided to visit Sunday AM to damage, steal, and cause havoc.”

Started in 2020, Glenore Trails is a mile-long holiday light forest walk that attracts approximately 100,000 visitors per year, as per the Commerce Township couple that operates it.

“Very disheartening when your small business is the target of vandalism and theft,” Glenore Trails said in its post. “Our team spends countless hours fighting the elements to keep this community experience fully operational.”

The trail will remain open through the rest of its scheduled season, the Facebook post said. General admission tickets are $25.
