Mets signing Japanese RHP Yuhi Sako to minor league deal: report

The Mets are adding some pitching depth, signing Japanese right-hander Yuhi Sako to a minor league deal, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Sako, 25, spent the 2024 season in Independent League ball with the New Jersey Jackals of the Frontier League and High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League.

In 18 games (17 starts) over 92.2 innings, Sako had a 3.88 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 79 strikeouts.

Before coming to play Independent League ball in the United States, Sako spent two seasons playing for the Canberra Cavalry in the Australian Baseball League.

For Canberra during the 2023-24 campaign, Sako had a 2.21 ERA and 1.06 WHIP wile striking out 39 batters in 36.2 innings.
