Port Huron and the Michigan Department of Transportation will be shutting down the middle lanes of Huron Avenue for the next week between Andrew Murphy Avenue and Bard Street.
A news release from Port Huron’s city engineer said the closure, which began Tuesday, is to allow the transportation department to perform exploratory excavation to verify information about the city’s underground infrastructure. The information will be used as part of MDOT’s Huron Avenue Road Reconstruction Project, which is scheduled to take place in 2027.

Port Huron City Engineer Brent Moore said excavation will be finished by the end of Tuesday, but it would take roughly a week for the new concrete to dry. He said he could not give an exact day for when the lanes would reopen.
