Midland-Odessa Days coming up

Jan. 10—With the Texas Legislature convening soon, it’s time for Midland-Odessa Days Feb. 3-5 in Austin.

“Every other year we join our friends at the Midland Chamber and take people to Austin to really wave the flag of West Texas and just remind the legislative body how important West Texas and the Permian Basin is to not only our state economy, but our world economy,” Odessa Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Renee Earls said.

“We usually take about 100 people. (It’s a) great opportunity for people just to come together. Some have never been to the state Capitol, and others go on a regular basis, so it’s a good mix of people to hear from various speakers and … promote our community,” Earls said.

She added that the trip is open to anyone who is interested in going.

The last several years, they have had six to eight students who have gone through University of Texas Permian Basin’s Shepperd Leadership Institute.

“It’s wonderful for those young college kids to have that experience. Every other year, we do a DC fly in. So again this year we’ll be in Austin because it is the convening of the state legislature,” Earls said.
