Mike McCarthy is officially out as the Dallas Cowboys’ head coach.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys and McCarthy are parting ways, and now we have to ask if maybe that’s best for everybody involved.
McCarthy will now have the opportunity to look at other jobs should he want to continue coaching, and he’ll take a resume, frankly, that the league respects to wherever he goes.
And conversely, the Cowboys can stand up and say, hey, we are the best of all the available jobs before you roll your eyes.
Remember, the Cowboys have what.
So many teams don’t.
A quarterback, whatever you think of Dak Prescott doesn’t change the fact that a couple of years ago he was in the running to be the league’s NFL MVP.
He got paid for a reason, and there are plenty of other teams around the league right now that don’t have quarterbacks that would give anything to have a problem like Dak maybe not performing up to expectations.
Realistically, if you’re a candidate like Ben Johnson, you can look at the Cowboys and understand that Jerry Jones has turned out to be a very patient owner that gives coaches time to develop whatever they’re going to try to develop.
Also, Jerry isn’t afraid to pay players that need to be paid along the way.
Oh, and by the way, you have a quarterback.
How many teams right now in the league can actually say that?
There is talent within the Dallas Cowboys roster, and now they will go to the open market to find the biggest name, the best coach they possibly can to make the most of that talent.
But most importantly, we can stop speculating about the future with Dallas and McCarthy and start wondering if someone else can finally find the answer to the Cowboys getting back to the Super Bowl.
