A missing Rhode Island police sergeant from Plainfield was found dead outside Sterling Town Hall on Monday, according to police.
A representative of the Connecticut State Police Media Relations Unit confirmed Wednesday that 47-year-old Jason Riquier, a sergeant for the Scituate Rhode Island Police Department who lived in Plainfield, was found dead in a vehicle outside Sterling’s town hall on Monday. Riquier was first reported missing on Sunday, the representative confirmed.
“There was no criminal aspect to this incident,” the representative said in a statement to The Day.
In a message to the public, Scituate Police Chief Eric Rollinson said Riquier served the department for 23 years and was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
“We are all struggling with the tragic loss of Sgt. Riquier, who was a valued and respected member of our Scituate Police family,” Rollinson said.
A GoFundMe page created Wednesday for Riquier’s widow, Rachael Riquier, and the couple’s young adult son, Mason Riquier, described the late sergeant as “a decorated and respected officer” who “shared a beautiful life” with his family.
The fundraiser, organized by Jennifer Mathers, who identified herself as a childhood friend of Rachael Riquier, had amassed $6,750 in donations as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Rachael is currently out of work grieving her husband,” Mathers wrote. “My hope is that this can help her with unexpected funeral costs and any housing expenses that may need to be covered.”
