Mom of hospitalized 9-year-old seeks help finding hit-and-run driver; GoFundMe launched

The mother of the 9-year-old Crawfordville boy still in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver is seeking help from the community.

“I debated on posting this but I’m hoping the jerk who hit him and ran will see this,” Kaitlyn Crawley posted on Facebook Thursday. “This is what you did to my baby. This is who you left alone and unconscious in the street completely helpless. Look at his face and look (at) what you did.”

The post is accompanied by a photo of the boy lying in a hospital bed connected to what appear to be breathing tubes.

The grandmother of the 9 year old boy set up a GoFundMe to fund a reward leading to the identification of his hit-and-run driver.

“He is off morphine but still on the vent(ilator),” she added. “Small amounts of blood on brain and swelling has improved.

“He’s moving … but won’t open his eyes so they are giving him more time to wean before they make the decision of whether a brain pressure plate needs to be placed. We have not addressed the leg yet. Just focused on his head.”

She also posted a link to a GoFundMe account set up by his grandmother. By Thursday afternoon, it was already over halfway to its goal of $6,000 to fund a reward leading to the identification of the driver, who is still at large.

“Someone knows something,” she wrote.

The wreck happened shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday outside a subdivision off Route 319, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release. A red SUV knocked the boy off a motorbike he was riding and left the scene, FHP said.

The FHP released this photo of the suspect’s vehicle (the SUV at center).
