PORTSMOUTH — The murder trial of a South Webster man is slated to begin Monday morning.
John Moore, 36, of Lick Run Lyra Road, is charged with murder after the shooting death of his ex girlfriend’s father on Feb. 17, 2024. Joseph Morris, 46, of Fairborn, died at Grant Trauma Center in Columbus after being flown there from Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Morris passed after an incident at Moore’s home when Morris’ daughter was attempting to retrieve belongings from the residence, which she had shared with Moore.
Moore is facing charges of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, felonious assault, and having weapons while under disability. The charges also carry firearm specifications.
Moore is accused of shooting Joseph Morris on Feb. 17 on Lick Run Lyra when Morris accompanied his daughter to Moore’s home. She was there to retrieve items from the residence she had shared with Moore.
Moore was arrested at the scene on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault. The charges were upgraded after Morris’ passing to aggravated murder, two counts of murder, felonious assault, and having weapons while under disability.
Moore is being lodged at the Scioto County Jail.
Representing the state in court proceedings are Scioto County Assistant Prosecutors Joseph Hale and Matthew Loesch. Local attorney Richard Nash is representing Moore. The trial will be in the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Mark Kuhn.
