More than eight months after fatal shooting, police charge this Augusta man with the crime

A 28-year-old Augusta man recently was arrested in connection with a homicide last April Fool’s Day – one of three shootings that occurred within 24 hours.

Dominique Beal was charged Friday with murder and with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Makel Jones, 19, was taken to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center and was pronounced dead by the time RCSO deputies answered a shots-fired emergency call with one person injured just before midnight Monday, April 1, in the 2000 block of Bolt Drive, near Jenkins-White Elementary School.

Beal is being held at Augusta’s Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
