MSU to offer art classes for continuing education

The Ralph & Juanita Harvey School of Visual Arts at Midwestern State University will offer several continuing education art classes this spring.

A ceramics handbuilding (sculpture) class for beginners and advanced students will be taught by MSU Texas Resident Ceramic Artist Pamela Moller. The class will meet from 6-9 p.m. Mondays from Jan. 27-May 12 in the Fain Fine Arts Center ceramics studio, room C119. Cost is $350 and includes all materials and firings.

Joshua Taylor will conduct a blacksmithing class for students with some knowledge of forging techniques. The class will meet from 6-8:50 p.m. on Wednesdays twice a month through February, March and April. Taylor will guide students on designing and forging a knife. Tuition is $350 and includes basic materials and tools. It will meet in Fain Fine Arts C114. Maximum enrollment is three students.

MSU Texas to host community education ceramics classes this spring.

MSU Texas alumna Auria Sanchez-Henriquez will conduct an enameling class. Students will learn the basic techniques of cutting, texturing, and enameling on non-ferrous metal to create their own designs. The class will meet from 6-8:50 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 28-April 22. Tuition is $350.

Wichita Falls jeweler Robert Dove will conduct an introductory course in metalsmithing and jewelry making. Students will learn small metal fabrication techniques including cold connections, soldering, bezel stone setting, etc. along with use of tools and shop equipment.

Dove has been designing and making custom jewelry since 1972. With his wife Kay, he has operated Dove’s Jewelers for many years. His buckles, bracelets, and necklaces have made him a six-time first-place winner at the Cowboy True competition. Classes will meet 6-8:50 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 30-April 24. Tuition is $350.
