Naples woman pleads no contest to stabbing husband year after attempted murder arrest

A Naples woman who faced attempted murder charges after authorities say she confessed to stabbing her husband repeated times changed her plea Wednesday.

Yahaira Pena Gonzalez, 46, was charged with attempted felony murder almost a year ago. She has remained in custody since her arrest.

Collier Circuit Judge Elizabeth Krier sentenced Pena Gonzalez, who pleaded no contest, to four years in prison with credit for time served, followed by 10 years of state probation.

According to an incident report, on Dec. 17, 2023, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office received information that a victim had been taken to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds. The victim said Pena Gonzalez, his wife, had stabbed him, the report indicates.

The victim, who suffered stabbing wounds to the torso, arms and face, said he and Pena Gonzalez argued before she stabbed him outside their home with a knife.

When authorities responded to the Santa Clara Drive home, they reported finding blood stains outside the victim’s pickup, according to the report.

A witness told authorities he heard both parties argue, and when he ran outside, he saw Pena Gonzalez stabbing the man.

The report states Pena Gonzalez ran inside and threw the knife in the kitchen sink.
