Nashua man arrested after Bedford officer shot

Jan. 4—A man is facing multiple charges in Bedford after he allegedly fled police and attempted to steal an officer’s gun, leading to the officer being shot.

Jared Masseur, 40, with a last known address in Nashua, was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, felon in possession of a dangerous weapon and attempting to take a firearm from an officer, Bedford police said in a news release, adding that Masseur had warrants elsewhere for drug and weapon possession.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, officers on patrol attempted to identify the occupants of a suspicious-looking vehicle parked near the County Inn & Suites on South River Road, the report said.

After officers, including a K-9, approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Masseur, fled on foot, police said. A female occupant stayed in the vehicle and cooperated with officers.

Two officers attempted to arrest Masseur, but he resisted, the report said, and in the struggle Masseur grabbed for an officer’s holstered gun and it fired into the officer’s leg.

The wounded officer officer wrested control of the gun, while the other officer called for the K-9, named Odin, to help apprehend Masseur, officials said.

Masseur was treated for injuries at the scene and at an area hospital, while the wounded officer was taken to a Manchester hospital, according to the report.

In a virtual bail hearing Saturday, Masseur was ordered held on preventive detention pending his arraignment, which was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at Merrimack District Court.
