Vincent Giumenti had the best turkey trot time

The Tuscarawas County YMCA’s recent Turkey Trot 5K fundraiser brought in $27,300.

The overal male winner was Vincent Giumenti of Dover, with a time of 15:05. The overall female winner was Hannah Wyler of Mineral City, with a time of 17:54.

Novelty rubber turkey awards were given to the top three male and female racers in each age category and the top three overall also received custom YMCA Turkey Trot socks. The race had 1,002 registered participants ranging in age from 8 months to 87 years old.

The Tuscarawas County YMCA’s 53rd Turkey Trot 5K fundraiser was recently held with 1,002 registered participants.

The money will go to the Y’s annual campaign, which provides direct financial assistance to youth and families in Tuscarawas County for memberships and programs like preschool, afterschool, swim lessons, youth sports, gymnastics, summer day camp, and Teen Leaders Club.

Christmas with a Cop

The Fraternal Order of Police Tuscora Lodge #4 selected Dec. 21 as the date to delivered a little extra holiday spirit to area children and families. The lodge also reached a milestone by providing Christmas with a Cop event for the 15th consecutive year.

This year’s event benefitted 15 families and 40 children ranging in age from months old to 17. Educators throughout the county nominated students to participate then FOP members and relatives shopped for the individuals at Walmart in New Philadelphia.

“All we want to do is help make Christmas a little brighter for our area youngsters,” said Robert Everett who co-chared the event with Frank Alesiano.

Employment assistance available

DOVER − Representatives from Ohio Means Jobs will be at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday to provide help with resume writing, job search assistance, interviewing skills and more. No appointment is necessary.

Christmas tours of Reeves home

DOVER − Christmas season tours of the Reeves Victorian Home & Carriage House Museum, 325 E. Iron Ave., continue Dec. 27-30. The museum is open from 1 to 7 p.m. Guided tours include an introduction to the home and carriage House, and information and anecdotes about the Reeves family. Dover Township trustees’ special session

DOVER − The Dover Township trustees will meet in special session at 9 a.m. Dec. 31 in the Township Hall to close out business for 2024 and reorganize for 2025. The first meeting of 2025 will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 21 in Township Hall.

Ukulele jam session Saturday

DOVER − The Dover Public Library will host a ukulele jam session from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the community room.

Ukulele enthusiasts can join the sessions on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Registration is required; visit www.doverlibrary.org/events.

Deadline for Reeves Foundation grant applications

DOVER − The Reeves Foundation Board of Trustees will meet in February. Grant requests must be received by Jan. 22. Local nonprofits that address the needs of the community can contact the Foundation at its Dover office for grant application information by email at office@reevesfound.org or by calling 330-364-4660.

Requests of all sizes are considered, but organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified. Emphasis is placed on capital-type expenditures rather than on operating funds. The Foundation board meets bi-monthly to consider grant requests, and the application deadline is three weeks prior to the meeting.

The Reeves Foundation was founded in 1966 by businessman Sam Reeves Jr. with funding in part from his two sisters.

Therapy program available for Parkinson’s patients

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital is offering the Speak Out! Therapy Program for people with Parkinson’s and related neurological disorders. Developed by Parkinson Voice Project, the program helps people regain and retain their speech and swallowing. The treatment combines education, individual and group speech therapy, daily home practice, and continuous follow-ups.

Applicants sought for Ward 2 City Council representative

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Tuscarawas County Republican Central Committee is seeking resumes from people interested in serving as the Ward 2 City Council representative in New Philadelphia. This position will become vacant in January when Mitch Pace assumes the role of Tuscarawas County commissioner.

Applicants must reside in Ward 2 and be a registered Republican voter. The deadline to receive all applications at party headquarters is Jan. 9.
