Norfolk man charged in connection with fatal shooting on Cary Avenue

NORFOLK — A man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting on Sunday.

Around 10:35 p.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of Cary Avenue for a report of a shooting ,according to a release. That’s a residential area in the Bruce’s Park neighborhood, near David Gilbert Jacox Elementary School.

When officers arrived, they found 52-year-old James O. Giles Jr., of Chesapeake, with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, according to police.

Police took 44-year-old Keith E. Brumsey Jr., of Norfolk, into custody at the scene, police said. He has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm and is being held at Norfolk City Jail, according to a release.

No other information has been provided.
