Northumberland County tax hearing set for Thursday

Dec. 11—SUNBURY — A Northumberland County judge will decide if commissioners will be able to raise taxes by 20 percent during a hearing Thursday.

On Dec. 12, Judge Hugh Jones will hear from Northumberland County Commissioners Sam Schiccatano, Joe Klebon and Meghan Beck after the elected officials petitioned the court two weeks ago to raise taxes for property owners from $35 to $150 per household in 2025. Commissioners want to increase the millage rate from 25 to 30 mills.

Jones will hear the case at 11 a.m.

According to Chief Assessor Tiffany Kaseman, the amount of increase will vary from $35 to $150 based on the assessed values of homes.

Kaseman said a standard half-double home could see about a $35 increase per year, while a newer home based on assessment value could see about a $150 increase per year.
