Officer injured in shooting, manhunt underway

Police are seeking information about a man suspected to be involved in a Wednesday night shooting in north Abilene.

The police department is seeking information on the location of the suspect, 39-year-old James Wesley Key of Abilene.

He is known to be carrying a firearm and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the police press release.

On Wednesday around 9:30 p.m., Abilene police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The man evaded police and fled to a residence in the 1700 block of Roosevelt Street, according to the press release.

Police are seeking information about James Wesley Key, 39, of Abilene who is suspected of injuring an officer in a shooting Wednesday.

After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect open fired on officers which resulted in injury to an officer, according to allegations in the media release. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released.

After the shooting, an extensive searched was conducted at the scene by the police department, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety.
