‘Oh god please’: Bystanders in Lawrence lift up car to rescue a woman
Residents of a Lawrence neighborhood are still trying to come to terms with the event that unfolded today.
A woman, who neighbors say was just delivering flowers, was suddenly trapped under a car.
It happened on Pennington Street, where witnesses say a car had rolled back slightly, trapping the woman under the wheel of the car.
“The lady had the legs under the wheel,” Lawrence resident Jenny Minaya said. “She was panicked and was like oh my god and called 911 and tell them hurry to get here.”
That’s when neighbors heard the cries for help.
Elvis Burgos and his father, Anthony, were the first to arrive at the scene.
“She was like oh god oh god please.”
Surveillance footage from a nearby store captured the ordeal all on camera.
Elvis recounted the incident, saying that he, his father, and a dozen other neighbors and police officers essentially ripped off the car’s bumper to pry the woman out from under the wheel.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, it was one of those scenarios that you see once in a lifetime I guess”
An absolute team and neighborhood effort to save the woman’s life.
She was taken to the hospital, where the Lawerence Fire Chief says that she suffered non-serious injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
