OKC craft ice cream brand set for fourth location in Skirvin

I scream, you scream, we all scream for a new Boom Town Creamery location in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City.

The location, the brand’s fourth, will be at 1 Park Ave., inside the historic Skirvin Hotel, and is set for a Spring 2025 opening.

“Our goal is to be open May 1,” said Angela Muir, owner of the ice cream shop. “You know, construction can go longer, but we really want to be open for the Softball World Series. I think the hotel is sold out for that.”

Muir wasn’t looking for a fourth location of her iconic craft ice cream shop, having just expanded with two additional locations last year. But now a spot centered in downtown OKC will join the flagship NW 23 Street, Edmond and south OKC stores.

“The Skirven actually approached me. The space that we’re going into is a small space. It’s about 450 square feet. It’s on the Broadway side of the building and it used to be an artist-in-residence space,” Muir said. “They really wanted to add some type of unique offering for guests and the community.”

Muir said that the new location will share the same menu as the current spaces, complete with shakes, sundaes and more, but it will have a few differences and possibly even some surprises for guests.

“The only big difference is it won’t have any inside seating. However, the hotel does have a lobby, and we will have exterior seating,” Muir said. “We will have all of our flavors. We are thinking about doing a ghost or haunted flavor that might just live at the Skirvin location, which could be really fun. So, that’s kind of an idea that we’ve floated around.”

The store is likely to be open later, Muir said, to account for games and events at Paycom Center, and the general nature of hotel business. Whether it will open any earlier than other locations remains to be seen, Muir said.

With downtown changing and growing due to the addition of more apartments and the Skirvin itself undergoing major renovations, including the addition of the recently opened Perle Mesta and upgrades to the lobby and guest rooms, Muir said that while the opportunity was unexpected, she is excited for Boom Town to connect to the legacy of its name even more.

“We already serve a lot of tourists who come into the city, but now we’re going to be right in the hotel where they’re staying, which is really cool. So, one of their first tastes of Oklahoma City could be Boom Town, which we love. Downtown is really experiencing a big renaissance with residents, too,” Muir said. “We’re excited to be part of that whole downtown boom.”
