Orange County School Board to discuss Guardian Program

School board members will discuss using school guardians on the Apopka, Ocoee, Winter Garden, Winter Park and Windermere campuses.

The work session will provide attendees with an overview of Orange County Public Schools’ safety and security program.

Orange County Public Schools currently have a one-year contract with law enforcement, an agreement that secures School Resource Officers on campuses for the 2024-25 school year.

New contract discussions regarding the five municipalities will begin in January 2025.

The district has an open contract with the remaining four agencies: the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orlando Police Department, Maitland Police Department and Eatonville Police Department.

If board members cannot reach an agreement, Florida law allows the Guardian Program to provide added security to school campuses.
