Party City is closing all of its stores across the country, according to CNN.
That includes the Green Bay store at 831 S. Military Ave. in the Green Bay Plaza.
In a Friday virtual meeting viewed by CNN, Party City CEO Barry Litwin told corporate employees that the company is “winding down” operations immediately and that Friday is their last day of employment.
CNN reports that employees were told they would not receive severance pay and their benefits would end as the company goes out of business.
Also on Friday, CNN reported that some of Party City’s store employees got letters that said the company would close stores Feb. 28.
Litwin said the company had struggled with inflation, which rose the company’s costs and drove down consumer spending.
Party City filed for bankruptcy in January 2023. That bankruptcy came with a restructuring that sparked store closures. While the company exited bankruptcy in September 2023, CNN reported it wasn’t able to overcome its financial challenges.
According to the company website, Party City has over 850 stores across the United States and is the largest party retailer in North America. Party City had approximately 6,400 full-time and 10,100 part-time workers as of 2021, CNN said.
