Person of interest in United Healthcare CEO murder causes stir in Maplewood with fake NJ ID

Luigi Mangione, a person of interest in the fatal shooting of the United Healthcare CEO, created major buzz in a New Jersey community when his fake ID showed an address of Sherman Place in Maplewood.

“Just about everyone in my life has been texting me since the news broke,” said a resident who lives on Sherman Place but did not wish to give her name on record. “We joked the address is the tree house in the backyard. I get healthcare is a problem, but it is still a tragedy. And a ridiculous cover up.”

The address that the suspect used on the fake New Jersey driver’s license, 128 Sherman Place Maplewood, does not exist. The house addresses go from 134, 130, 124, 120 and 114 on one side of the street. Mangione used the name Mark Rosario on the ID.

The street that borders with South Orange in Essex County is not particularly large in size, composing of about a six houses on each side.

A fake New Jersey driver’s license that Luigi Mangione had on him when taken into custody on Dec. 9, 2024. The address has been blurred because it does not exist.

“It’s crazy. I had to put my reading glasses on to make sure it wasn’t our house,” said Sherman Place resident Jonelle Delk. She said she got almost a dozen calls and texts from people about the news.

The fake ID which consisted of the Sherman Place address is the talk of the town. Delk and two other residents who live on the street said they first heard the story in the town group chat.

“I was seeing some extreme views of the shooting from both sides,” said another Sherman Place resident who did not wish to give her name. “It makes you question why would he use this town? Was it because he knows someone here? Does he know this is a liberal community? I’m interested to see what the connection is, if there is one.”

Others on Sherman Place had no idea the United CEO assassination suspect used their street in a fake ID. Michael Maier, who’s lived on the street for 30 years, heard the news for the first time when he spoke to NorthJersey.com on Monday evening.

“It’s terrible. You hear people have problems with health care and coverage getting denied, and maybe that happened to someone he knew or him,” said Maier. “What concerns me more is that this is another instance of gun violence. This country has a serious gun problem. It’s ridiculous.”

None of the residents that spoke to The Record knew of the suspect or even heard of the name before the news broke today.
