A person was killed by police in an encounter Saturday afternoon.
According to a press release from Gaston County, officers from the Gaston County Police Department responded to a 911 call in the 2000 block of Beau Drive, Stanley, at 12:22 p.m.
After arrival, an officer discharged their firearm and struck an individual. Medical aid was provided, but the wounded person succumbed to their injuries at the scene, the press release said.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave per department protocol while the incident is under investigation. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct the shooting investigation, and the Gaston County Police Department will conduct its own internal investigation.
The press release concluded with:
“We understand the public’s concern and are committed to full transparency. We will share further information as it becomes available and as the investigation progresses.
Our thoughts are with the officers involved, their families, and the families of the individuals affected by this tragic incident.”
