Pets parade along streets of Selinsgrove

Dec. 8—SELINSGROVE — Festively dressed pets took over the streets of Selinsgrove Borough Saturday afternoon for the Selinsgrove Chamber of Commerce’s eighth annual pet parade.

This year’s event had the most participants yet including several dogs and one goat, according to parade organizer and owner of First Class Male Barbershop Duane DeWire.

While some new pets joined the pack, regulars continue to return.

Ida Stauffer, of Port Trevorton, said she’s been participating with Asha, a 4-year-old Havanese, for four years.

“We enjoy this every year,” Stauffer said.

This year Asha and Stauffer were dressed as snowmen for the event.

Roxanne Kerstetter and her poodle, 4-year-old Amos, participate in the parade for the first time last year and enjoyed it so much they decided to return.

“I just love it,” Kerstetter said regarding dressing up with Amos.

According to DeWire, the costumes, which can be worn by both pets and owners, get a little more elaborate every year.

DeWire said the turnout often depends on the weather. Saturday’s dry and clear conditions were perfect, according to DeWire.

Frank and Kathy DeLucca, of Strolling Accordions, played polka-style holiday music to lead the parade.

Texas Roadhouse’s ‘Andy the Armadillo’ and ‘Red’ from Red Robin even joined the lineup. Dewire noted the parade would not be possible with Texas Roadhouse’s sponsorship.
