Dozens of cats and dogs rescued from overcrowded shelters in California are now ready and waiting for their forever homes in Washington.
The animals were flown here over the weekend to escape the deadly wildfires tearing through the southern part of the state.
The rescue mission was made possible by a partnership between the Seattle Humane Society, Paws for Life K9 Rescue, Wings of Rescue, and the Pittie Project PNW.
Many of the pets will be ready for adoption starting Tuesday.

“A number of pets will need to be spayed and neutered before they go home, but here’s a first look at just a few of the 39 dogs who came up last night. More cuteness inbound soon,” Seattle Humane wrote online Monday afternoon:

Pittie Project PNW President Ashley Georgia told KIRO 7 that many California shelters were already bursting at the seams. Bringing animals to Washington that need homes will make room for pets who need a place to stay until they can be reunited with their families.
