Police: Daytona Beach man raped woman and threatened to kill her

A man is in custody for raping a woman at a Grandview Avenue home a week ago, according to Daytona Beach police and court records.

Jeremy Starliper, 40, drove the victim to a home in New Smyrna Beach where he ordered her out of his car at gunpoint, an arrest report shows.

Police learned of the incident after medical staff at Halifax Health Medical Center, where the woman went for treatment, called authorities. A rape examination was done on the woman at the hospital, police said.

The victim had multiple cuts and injuries to her body, police said, and was beaten several times.

Starliper was arrested and jailed Jan. 7, charged with sexual battery with a deadly weapon/force, kidnapping, aggravated battery with bodily harm, and aggravated assault. He was being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail Monday without bail.

Court records indicate Starliper, a military veteran, shows evidence of being seriously mentally ill and was ordered to turn over any firearms in his possession in February of 2024 for at least one year after he was found hallucinating on a New Smyrna Beach with a Glock pistol and several dozen rounds of ammunition.
