Delaware State Police have identified the 44-year-old man killed Saturday night after being hit by a car near New Castle.
According to police, Edward Gallagher was walking on Route 13, north of Route 273, when he stepped into the south lane of Route 13. That’s where a 38-year-old man from Smyrna was driving his Toyota Tacoma.
The driver couldn’t avoid hitting Gallagher, police said. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died.

The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.
