The West Des Moines Police Department on Wednesday identified the woman who died in a car crash Monday morning as 45-year-old Jamie Alertsen of Pleasantville.
Police and other first responders were dispatched to Interstate 35 northbound at Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines for a crash around 6 a.m. Monday, according to a news release from the West Des Moines Police Department. Two cars were involved in the crash, Sgt. Dan Wade, spokesperson with the West Des Moines Police Department, told the Register.
Alertsen died from her injuries. Two others, a 19-year-old woman from Pleasantville and a 27-year-old man from Des Moines, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the release said. Wade did not specify which car the injured people were in nor did he provide details on how the crash happened.
The crash initially blocked at least two lanes of traffic heading into the peak morning commute. At least one lane remained blocked until the crash was finally cleared around 10 a.m., according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
No arrests or charges have been filed and the cause of the crash is still under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon, Wade said.
There have been 326 fatalities on Iowa roads in 2024 as of Wednesday, according to the DOT.
