POLICE NEWS: Goshen man injured in crash near Wakarusa

Jan. 14—A man was hospitalized Tuesday morning following a crash outside Wakarusa.

Elkhart County deputies reported that at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, James Troyer, 33, of Goshen, was traveling east on C.R. 38 and began turning into a driveway. At the same time, however, Casey Castro, 26, of Millersburg, was traveling west on C.R. 38 and the vehicles collided.

Troyer was transported to Goshen Hospital for right leg pain.

Tuesday morning crash hospitalizes drivers

A crash Tuesday morning outside Middlebury sent both drivers to the hospital.

Elkhart County deputies reported that at 6:31 a.m. Monday, Ella Holthues, 30, of Middlebury, was traveling east on C.R. 48 east of C.R. 143, in a 2016 Chevrolet Trax when she lost traction, and collided with a 2021 Honda Accord driven by Travis Bunn, 27, of Ligonier, which was travelling west on C.R. 48.

Holthues was transported to Fort Wayne hospital for treatment and Bunn was transported to Goshen General Hospital for treatment.

HIT-AND-RUN

A 56-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies at 5:50 a.m. Jan. 10 someone crashed into the stop sign at Kehres Street and C.R. 10 in Elkhart and fled the scene.

ARRESTS

—A 72-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 7:27 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of paraphernalia following a traffic stop near Pike Street and Main Street.

—A 33-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 12:58 p.m. Saturday on charges of possession of a needle, schedule I controlled substance, and a legend drug after police were called to Wellnow Urgent Care, 924 W. Pike St., for a welfare check.

—A 40-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of meth after police were called to a home on Silverwood Lane for a domestic altercation.

—A 28-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 1:27 a.m. Monday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and never obtaining a license after he was stopped for a moving violation near Lincoln Avenue and Wheatland Drive.

—A 47-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Elkhart County deputies at 7:39 p.m. Jan. 10 on a charge of possession of marijuana with a prior conviction after he was stopped near U.S. 6 and Delaware Street.

—A 33-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Elkhart County deputies at 3:14 p.m. Jan. 10 on a charge of criminal trespassing after the owner of a property in the 54000 block of Lilac Street contacted police about a man hiding in his shed who had been trespassed just a few days prior.
