POLICE NEWS: Middlebury man arrested after crash

Jan. 10—A man was arrested outside of Middlebury after a crash Thursday evening.

Elkhart County deputies reported that at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Darren Jackson, 30, was traveling east on Ind. 120 west of York Hills Drive in Middlebury in a 2010 Ford Fusion and failed to yield the right of way to Gloria Davila, 50, of Middlebury, in a 2008 Nissan Sentra.

Davila, police said, was traveling east on Ind. 120 and turning north onto York Hills Drive when Jackson attempted to pass Davila’s Sentra on the left as Davila was turning.

Jackson’s Fusion went off the south side of the road, striking several large rocks, a NIPSCO utility pole, and a stop sign, rolling over onto its side and striking the entrance sign to York Hills Sun Homes, the report reads.

Jackson was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving and was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

ARRESTS

—A 74-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Elkhart County deputies at 12:03 p.m. Thursday on charges of driving while suspended and leaving the scene of a crash after allegedly crashing his 2007 Chevrolet Impala into another vehicle near Ind. 15 and C.R. 18 and fleeing the scene.
