QUINCY ‒ Police have arrested a Boston man after seizing a firearm, narcotics and $5,000 in cash from his vehicle during a traffic stop on Hannon Parkway, police said.
Someone called police about a man who “had brandished a firearm from his waistband” at a Granite Street parking lot on the night of Friday, Dec. 20. Police say an argument over a drug deal led to the threatening firearm display.
The incident marks the second seizure of drugs and firearms by Quincy Police in a four-day span. Police arrested a Quincy man on Dec. 17.
Quincy police Capt. Daniel Guarente said police have no reason to believe the two cases are related. Guarente did say that in 2024 the number of firearms seizures in Quincy and elsewhere increased, while the amount of drug seizures wasn’t markedly different than in previous years.En route to the scene Dec. 20, responding officers pulled a car over based on a description of the suspect and his vehicle. During the traffic stop, a K9 unit trained to detect firearms led officers to a Mauser-HSE .380 caliber firearm in the suspect’s vehicle, police said.
The arresting officers also found “several blue pills made to look like oxycodone but are believed to contain fentanyl and over 100 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine” and $5,000 in cash, the press release says.
Police estimate the street value of the pills and suspected cocaine at $10,000.
