Police seeking suspects accused of stealing ATM from Meriden convenience store

Police are investigating after a group of individuals used a vehicle to rip an ATM machine out of a convenience store in Meriden on Sunday, stealing the cash box from the machine before trying to do the same thing in another town.

Officers at 1:09 a.m. responded to the Valero gas station at 369 Cook Ave. on the report of multiple suspects trying to steal the ATM from the building, according to the Meriden Police Department. The individuals had fled the area by the time officers arrived.

Police said video surveillance showed that the thieves arrived in a 2008 Honda CR-V EX with a Connecticut license plate 4615-CP. The vehicle was occupied by four individuals who smashed out the front window of the business and wrapped a chain around the ATM, which was attached to the Honda, according to police.

The ATM came apart as it was pulled out from the store. Police said the thieves took the cash box and fled the area.

Officers put out a “be on the lookout” alert to neighboring police departments before the same group was believed to have attempted a similar theft in Branford.

The incidents remain under investigation.
