Police: Woman assaulted Geisinger nurse

A woman kicked a registered nurse as police officers were attempting to transfer her into a hospital for treatment, according to a criminal complaint.

Julie Ann Grimmer, 25, of 131 Ginger Snap Drive, Greenwood, is charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

This is what police say happened:

At about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, police officers were called to the Wine & Spirits Shoppe, South Abington Township.

Officers found Grimmer in a storage room of the business, upset and smelling of alcohol.

Grimmer said she had been assaulted by a man who left the store.

Grimmer said she met the man on a dating app and the two had been arguing about her buying alcohol.

She said she had been in Dickson City the previous night and slept outside.

Officers ran a records search, but could not identify the man Grimmer referenced.

Police then called Grimmer’s parents who said they would come and get her, but were about an hour away.

Grimmer was taken to the police station, where stated, “I don’t want to live any more” and began using profane language.

Officers decided Grimmer should be taken for a mental health evaluation and placed her in a police vehicle.

Police alerted security staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center.

After the police vehicle arrived at the medical facility and officers were informing staff they had arrived, Grimmer began hitting her head off the plexiglass inside the vehicle, charges read.

Kristen Davis, a registered nurse, was waiting to assist Grimmer into the hospital.

As officers and EMS were assisting Grimmer out of the vehicle, she kicked Davis on the left hand side of her face, police said.

Once in the hospital, Grimmer was secured by multiple police and security officers. She was then sedated.

Grimmer was released from Lackawanna County Prison on a $10,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Jan.15 before District Christopher Szewczyk.
