Rainy and gusty weather in Cape Cod forecast

High winds and a big splash of rain may be in the cards for Cape Cod during the middle part of the week.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for portions of southeastern Massachusetts, southern Rhode Island and Cape Ann, in effect from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night, with south winds from 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 55 mph possible.

According to the National Weather Service, “Strong to damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Rain is expected to move into the region on Wednesday morning and move out of the area by Thursday morning. According to the National Weather Service forecast discussion, “there is still some uncertainty as to where the highest amounts will be.”

One of the forecast models shows the possibility of more than two inches of rain in the Cape Cod region, but other models shift higher rainfall possibilities to other regions.
