Some students and employees in Rapides Parish schools might have had their personal information compromised because of a breach with a company used by the district for its student information system, according to a news release.
PowerSchool, a software company based in California, confirmed that “some RPSB data was part of the information accessed during this incident,” it reads.
Students and employees within the system from April 1995 through Dec. 28, 2024, might have had data such as names, addresses and phone numbers accessed. It’s possible that some health information, grades and Social Security numbers also were taken, it reads.

The district said the company “has given us relative assurances that any data that may have been breached hasbeen secured.”
The company plans to provide credit monitoring services to adults and identity protection services to students, it reads.
The district still is in the process of getting information from PowerSchool and said victims would be contacted directly and provided more information once officials get all that information.
“At this time, no immediate action is required from parents, teachers, or students. However, we encourage all families and staff to remain attentive,” it reads. “For additional support and guidance, we recommend visiting IdentityTheft.gov, the federal government’s one-stop resource for identity theft victims. The site provides streamlined checklists and templates to guide recovery efforts if needed.”
