Richard David, former mayor of the City of Binghamton, has announced he intends to run for Broome County Clerk.
In a statement, David, a Republican, said he is “eager to bring his extensive public and private sector experience to this critical role.”
“With over 25 years of service to Broome County, I’ve dedicated my career to improving our community and delivering results,” he said. “From leading Binghamton through the challenges of COVID to advocating for state aid and saving AA Baseball in our city, I have the track record and the experience to make a real impact as County Clerk.”
David, who served as mayor in Binghamton for eight years, ran unsuccessfully for New York’s 52nd District Senate seat in 2022.

Before taking office as mayor, David served as Binghamton’s community relations director in 2000 under then-mayor Richard Bucci, moving up to deputy mayor in 2004. David later became public affairs officer at SUNY Broome Community College in 2006, a position he held until taking a leave of absence to campaign for Binghamton mayor. He first took office in January 2014.
Current Broome County Clerk Joe Mihalko, who has served in the position for eight years, is not seeking reelection.
David said he will formally launch his campaign Feb. 12 at the Old Union Hotel at 246 Clinton St. in Binghamton.
