Rochester man sentenced to 15 months in prison for drug trafficking charges

ROCHESTER ― A borough man was sentenced to 15 months in prison for his role in an organized drug trafficking ring.

Officials for the Department of Justice announced that 46-year-old Roberto Muniz Sanchez received the sentence on Wednesday after the Rochester man was found guilty of possessing and intending to distribute cocaine. Following his time in federal prison, Sanchez will remain on supervised release for three years.

According to court records, Sanchez was a member of an organized drug trafficking group that obtained kilograms of cocaine from Puerto Rico via the United States Postal Service. Sanchez was found guilty of trafficking this cocaine in the Lawrence County area and had also obtained drugs for personal use from October 2023 to March 2024.

Lawrence County is one of six western Pennsylvania counties officially designated as a High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area by the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy. Several federal and local law enforcement agencies made the conviction possible, working with the Lawrence County High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force to get a conviction.
