A pedestrian died after being hit by a pickup while crossing North Dupont Highway near New Castle late Saturday night, authorities reported.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 11:16 p.m. on Dec. 7 when the victim, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, attempted to cross North Dupont Highway approaching Christiana Road. Police said the 44-year-old New Castle man was wearing dark clothing when he entered the path of a Toyota Tacoma heading southbound on North Dupont Highway and was struck.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The pickup truck’s driver, a 38-year-old Smyrna man, was unharmed in the collision.
The crash forced authorities to close the affected section of North Dupont Highway for approximately two hours while investigators processed the scene.
