SCITUATE – The Scituate Police Department has announced the recent death of one of its department members.
Sgt. Jason Riquier was a 23-year veteran of the department and a United States Marine Corps veteran, Police Chief Eric Rollinson said in a press release Tuesday. His death was reported on Monday, according to the chief.
“We are all struggling with the tragic loss of Sgt. Riquier, who was a valued and respected member of our Scituate Police family,” Rollinson said.
Sgt. Jason Riquier was a 23-year veteran of the Scituate Police Department.
“We want to thank our community, and our law enforcement partners across the state for the support they have offered our department and Sgt. Riquier’s family during this time,” Rollinson said.
The announcement, with a photograph of Riquier standing by a police cruiser, was posted to social media, drawing condolences and comments of support from police departments across Rhode Island and beyond.
Riquier was 47 years old and grew up in Woonsocket. He served four years with the Marines.
Last March, Riquier helped foil a so-called “grandparent scam” targeting an elderly Scituate resident. After the resident had given the scammers some $34,000, she reported it to the police, and Riquier arranged to have the police waiting when a suspect returned for a third installment, the police said in a press release last year.
In announcing Riquier’s death, Rollinson said, “We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
