SF SPCA waives adoption fees to make room for dogs affected by SoCal wildfires

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – The San Francisco chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is waiving adoption fees to ease overcrowding and make room for dogs affected by the devastating Southern California wildfires.

The SF SPCA told KRON4 that it urgently needs forever homes for 50 puppies. It said the shelter was already overwhelmed before the wildfires hit Southern California.

By adopting out these pups for free, the SPCA said it will free up space in its shelter as staff prepare to head to Los Angeles next week to bring back more animals in need. The standard adoption fee is usually $400.

“Waiving adoption fees removes that barrier—getting those puppies home and making room for adoptable animals in shelters down south, so they can make space for fire victims and pets waiting to be reunited with their owners,” said Aeris Velasco, assistant adoption manager at SF SPCA.

Anyone interested in adopting can visit the SF SPCA’s main location at 250 Florida Street, open Tuesdays from 1-6 p.m. and Wednesdays to Sundays from 11-6 p.m. Available animals are listed on sfspca.org.
