The heart of winter will return with a roar in Quebec this weekend as periods of heavy snowfall give way to a dramatic temperature plunge.
Snow that began on Friday will continue into Saturday for many locations. Expect rough road conditions across communities affected by the snowfall.

Snow precedes the Arctic arrival
Snow that pushed into western Quebec on Friday will continue throughout much of the province heading into the beginning of our weekend.
Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected from the late morning through the early afternoon hours across Gatineau and Mont-Tremblant. The heavy snowfall will push into Quebec City by Saturday evening.
Quebec Snowfall Timing
Wind gusts of 40-60 km/h will accompany the snowfall, with gusts potentially reaching 70 km/h in eastern portions of the province. The combination of heavy snowfall and gusty winds could lead to near-whiteout conditions at times.
Drivers can expect dangerous road conditions as a result of the snow and winds—especially Saturday afternoon along Highway 15 and Highway 50.
Folks around Gatineau and Quebec City are likely to see 5-10 cm of snow from this system, with higher totals possible at higher elevations.
Sharp temperature drop expected
A cold front will cut into Quebec through the overnight hours Saturday into Sunday, leaving a dramatic temperature drop in its wake.
Montreal temperature drop

Temperatures in Montreal could fall as fast as 2°C per hour between midnight and 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, with temperatures on Sunday morning dropping to about -12°C with even colder wind chill values.
Most regions will see low temperatures in the -20s overnight Sunday into Monday. This cold spell is likely to bring Montreal its first -20°C reading of the season—not only that, but this would be the first time the city has gotten that cold since Feb. 25, 2023.
