A police chase ending in a crash shut down southbound Interstate 71 near downtown Columbus, according to reports.
At 5:12 a.m., the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that all southbound lanes of Interstate 71 at Greenlawn Avenue were shut down along with the eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 ramps to Interstate 71. The lanes reopened around 6:30 a.m.
A sheriff’s office spokesperson said deputies attempted to stop a vehicle near Hollywood Casino in Columbus’ Hilltop neighborhood at about 4 a.m. Friday.
When the vehicle refused to stop, deputies pursued the vehicle along with officers from the Ohio Highway Patrol and Columbus police, the spokesperson said.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a tractor-trailer near the Greenlawn Avenue exit on Interstate 71. The suspect was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, and the tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.
