Shoppers in the Upstate were busy preparing for the upcoming winter storm on Wednesday by shopping for bread, milk, and eggs at Spartanburg grocery stores.
Parking lots were full and shoppers were loading up grocery carts and filling up the trunks of their vehicles with essential items.
Bread and milk are usually some of the most sought-after items at grocery stores when snow is forecasted. Most folks look for items to help sustain them if roads are hard to navigate during snow or ice.

Snow in the forecast
It will begin to snow late Friday morning around noon and will persist for a “good chunk throughout the day,” said Clay Chaney with the National Weather Service at GSP. Around sunset, sleet and freezing rain will start to mix in.
Snow amounts remain variable, but 1-3 inches are still expected for Greenville. Three to 6 inches of snow are expected in northern Greenville and up toward the mountains.

Shoppers fill their baskets
On Wednesday, Tammy Bishop of the Pauline area was shopping at S&A Discount Grocery, 1214 Union Street in Spartanburg. Her basket was filled with bread and other essential grocery store items.
“I’m up here getting supplies for the storm because everyone knows whenever South Carolina gets snow, we’re crippled for a couple of days and I’m not going to get out and drive in it because I live so far out in the country,” she said.
Bishop brought bread to make sandwiches for her family and a pork roast “that I can put on the grill in case we lose power.
“I was looking for eggs and milk, but they didn’t have any here, so my next stop is Walmart,” she said.
Across town, Jermia Sawyer of Spartanburg had a basket full of groceries for her family that she purchased at Wise Buys Discount Groceries, 369B Whitney Road in Spartanburg.
“I want to prepare for everything as far as groceries,” she said while packing her groceries into her trunk. “Once you lose power, you got to find a way to eat, find a way to keep your family warm. I feel like I got everything I need for a while.”
