Slick Tuesday AM commute, bigger storm looms Wednesday

CHILLY AND DREARY TUESDAY

As we begin Tuesday, watch out for slick spots northwest of the city, particularly outside of I-495 through Worcester Hills and southern New Hampshire, where a bit of freezing drizzle overnight may leave some areas icy. During the day, temperatures will remain in the 30s under overcast skies, though southeast Massachusetts will be milder with highs reaching the mid-40s.

WEATHER ALERT: HIGH IMPACT RAINSTORM WEDNESDAY

We’re on a weather alert Wednesday as a powerful system moves through the region. Rain begins early, as soon as 2-5am and continues throughout the day, with heavy downpours and even a few thunderstorms. This system will bring widespread rainfall of 1.50-3.00″, and localized flooding is a concern, especially in areas farther north where melting snow will add to the runoff. Winds will also pack a punch with gusts of 35-50mph inland and 50-60 mph along the coastline. Despite the messy weather, high temperatures will climb into the low 60s as southerly air is drawn into the storm. The worst of our weather will occur during the afternoon and evening hours. Power outages are possible and you’ll want to secure any outdoor decorations or loose items ahead of the storm.

A COLD AND QUIET END TO THE WEEK

By Thursday, the rain will have moved out, but the region will stay windy and much colder. High temperatures will drop back into the low 40s under partly cloudy skies, with gusty winds making it feel even chillier. As we head into the weekend, the weather quiets down significantly. Expect dry conditions with a mix of sun and clouds, though temperatures will stay cold, with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.
