Snow may keep falling, even after winter weather advisory is lifted Saturday morning

A winter weather advisory for Greater Cincinnati will end at 7 a.m. Saturday, but snow showers may continue into the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service office in Wilmington was showing snowfall accumulation of 2 to 4 inches in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky in the past 24 hours.

A winter weather advisory, which is issued when wintry elements are expected but not hazardous enough to meet warning criteria, is in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday for the following counties:

  • Franklin, Ripley, Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland counties in Indiana.

  • Boone, Campbell, Kenton, Carroll, Gallatin, Owen, Grant, Pendleton, Bracken, Robertson, Mason and Lewis counties in Kentucky.

  • Hamilton, Clermont, Butler, Warren, Brown, Hardin, Mercer, Auglaize, Darke, Shelby, Logan, Union, Miami, Champaign, Clark, Madison, Preble, Montgomery, Greene and Fayette counties in Ohio.

The weather service advises drivers to plan on slippery road conditions.

According to the forecast, there is a slight chance of snow before 7 a.m. Saturday. There is also a slight chance of snow showers between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The forecast for Saturday is cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny. The high will be near 29 with a 20% chance of precipitation. Forecast wind speeds are between 6 and 10 mph, which is described as a light breeze to a gentle breeze.

‘Bitterly cold weather’ in the forecast next week

“Bitterly cold weather” is also in the forecast this upcoming week for most Greater Cincinnati counties and others nearby, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind chill values ranging from zero to negative 10 will be possible Tuesday and Thursday morning, the agency’s Wilmington office said. Wind chill values ranging from negative 10 to negative 15 will be possible Wednesday morning.

According to the agency, the “dangerously low” values are due to a combination of very cold temperatures and wind.

Saturday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 32. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Saturday night, mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Light south wind.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Sunday night, increasing clouds, with a low around 25. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Monday night, partly cloudy, with a low around 7.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 19. Tuesday night, partly cloudy, with a low around 2.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. Wednesday night, partly cloudy, with a low around 9.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 32. Thursday Night, mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 39.
